AMHCA 2007 Annual Conference

AMHCA 2007 Annual Conference
Growth Out of Adversity
July 26-28, 2007

Dear WMHCA Members,

New Orleans has been christened the City of Hope in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The return of tourists and conventions -- like AMHCA's -- is helping to revive the entire area.

New Orleans RiverwalkJust a few months after Katrina, the AMHCA board of directors had to decide whether to hold our conference in New Orleans, and we voted to do so. AMHCA is committed to doing its part to help in the city's revitalization. Dr. Mark Hamilton, AMHCA's executive director and CEO, put it best by saying, "We're in the business of human development and this is an unprecedented opportunity for us to contribute."

Last October, I visited our conference site, the Hotel Monteleone. As one of the oldest family-owned hotels in the area, it is impressive, with richly appointed conference rooms, first-class amenities and classic architecture that you just can't find elsewhere.

French Quarter BalconiesOur conference theme is Growth Out of Adversity. Trauma can take a terrible toll on people, both psychologically and physically. Recent research, however, has revealed another face of tragedy, one in which most recover and many even show signs of growth.

The streets in the French Quarter are filled with people again. The sounds, smells, and vibrancy of the area are evident as you walk down the streets. AMHCA's commitment to the strength and resilience of the human spirit is reflected in our decision to go to New Orleans.

Make a difference: join us
in New Orleans this July.

Sincerely,

Gary Gintner, Ph.D.

AMHCA President-Elect and Conference Chair
